Looking for an upgrade from first class and perhaps caviar as an in-flight snack? For millionaires and billionaires who are privileged enough to jet-set across the globe, they can pack up and go whenever and wherever they please—but they’ll actually need a jet for that. To help avoid inconvenient air traffic, Engel & Völkers Aviation recently ranked the most popular private jet routes taken throughout Europe in 2016, based on survey data produced by market research company WINGX Advance.
Bart Boury, CEO of Engel & Völkers Aviation, reported that “the most frequented private jet route in Europe was from Aéroport International de Genève in Switzerland to Aéroport de Paris-Le Bourget in France,” with private jets having flown this route an average of 1,647 times and mostly used by business people. The Paris-Le Bourget airport rose to prominence again in 1927 when Charles Lindbergh landed there after his historic transatlantic solo crossing. The reverse route from Paris to Geneva ranked in second place at 1,571 flights.
Third and fourth place in the ranking were routes within France from Aéroport Nice Côte d’Azur to Aéroport de Paris-Le Bourget and in the reverse direction from Paris-Le Bourget to Nice. These connections are especially popular among French nationals who work in Paris and own second homes on the Côte d’Azur. Boury explains, “Of all the routes ranked in the top 10, the connection from Nice to Paris saw the biggest increase in flights compared to 2015 – by 16 percent, in fact.”
Another notable finding from Engel & Völkers Aviation indicated the French Riviera as a desirable location for second home buyers from Russia. Private jet flights from Nice airport to Vnukovo International Airport in Moscow and in the opposite direction from the Russian capital to Aéroport Nice Côte d’Azur, ranked in fifth and sixth places, respectively, proving that many are willing to go the extra mile to spend time under the French sun.
